RISE 4.0 Basic Training – Starting May/June 2025

This course is based on the latest version of the RISE software (Version 4.0) and provides a comprehensive introduction to the application of the method through a real farm assessment.

What to Expect from the Training?

In this hands-on training, participants will:
✔ Become familiar with the RISE software and training materials,
✔ Prepare effectively for interviews with farm managers,
✔ Conduct a farm assessment on a real farm of their choice,
✔ Systematically analyze and reflect on the collected data,
✔ Prepare for and conduct a feedback discussion with the farm managers.

From the initial preparation to the final analysis, participants will be guided and coached by experienced RISE instructors. The training takes place in a small group of 4–8 participants to ensure interactive learning and personalized support. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the official status of "RISE analyst."

Online RISE basic training

This training course are conducted by BFH-HAFL staff and alternate between self-study/farm visits and group online course modules. On a farm of your choosing, you will conduct a complete consultation process, with our assistance all along the way. Full training takes two to three months.

SULAWE (Sustainable Livestock Production and Animal Welfare) & RISE

The goal of the project is to train professionals in Ukraine in the field of livestock farming and animal production based on high-quality standards and international guidelines. This aims to promote knowledge-based solutions that contribute to sustainable agriculture, improved animal welfare, and the mitigation of climate change impacts in livestock farming. These measures support the achievement of climate neutrality according to the European Green Deal by 2050.

A central component of the SULAWE project is the advanced training of teaching staff at four universities in Ukraine and one university in Slovenia. The aim is to familiarize them with the principles of sustainability assessment for agricultural enterprises and jointly develop proposals for improving sustainability.

In 2024, twelve participants completed an online training on the RISE method, which consisted of eight live sessions and accompanying self-study. Under the guidance of Veronika Zbinden and Dr. Julia Motuzka, both scientific collaborators at HAFL, the participants learned to analyze agricultural enterprises and provide well-founded consultations based on the results. As part of the training, they independently conducted RISE analyses on farms in Germany, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

Thanks to this training, the new RISE analysts are now qualified to use the method in their teaching with students. This enables them to convey the concept of sustainability in a practical manner and foster a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture among future professionals.
