Portrait

Future-oriented teaching, new learning scenarios, agile methods: in this part-time continuing education programme, we will familiarise you with the model of the ‘six mindsets’ (Permantier: Mindset Matters, 2019). You will examine your own educational mindset as a teacher. You will bear this in mind throughout the challenges of digital transformation. You will plan your own continuing education priorities on a semester-by-semester basis, realise your corresponding goals in a self-directed manner, regularly discuss them in a ‘Working Out Loud circle’ (WOL feedback) and reflect on development in an ePortfolio.

Learning outcomes

Over the course of the CAS, you will acquire new competencies or expand on your existing skills in various areas. The programme focuses on the following areas:

Educational mindset

  • Contextualising your own mindset

  • Categorising the mindset of your institution

  • Developing learning scenarios suited to 21st-century skills

Methodology

  • Plan and implement skill-centred learning settings

  • Adopt different types of workplace learning (e.g. Working Out Loud)

  • Initiate and guide different forms of collaborative working

  • Document your own development process (ePortfolio)

Learning culture transformation

  • Outline possible development steps

  • Recognise and take advantage of the opportunities offered by networked learning

  • Develop and initiate a strategy for your own institution (change process)

  • Guide your own institution on its path to becoming a learning organisation

The learning process is designed to promote ‘lifelong learning’. Working in a small network (WOL circle), you will develop new learning scenarios, use them in your own teaching, reflect on them and develop them further. The overall process is based on today’s agile models: the small learning and development steps allow for plenty of flexibility.

Semester 1

  • You will reflect on your own teaching and develop new learning settings.

  • You will examine the educational mindset that the school of the future needs and consider what is required for a successful change process.

Semester 2

  • You will implement new learning settings in your own teaching within the framework of WOL circles (Working Out Loud).

  • Based on your findings from the first semester, you will develop a strategy for transforming the learning culture in your own school.

Semester 3

  • You will explore skills-based methods for new learning settings in greater depth.

  • Following consultation with the head teacher, you will begin to implement the strategy you have developed in your own school.

  • You will evaluate the implementation of the strategy and continuously adapt it as required.

  • You will continue to guide the transformation of the school’s learning culture.

To enable you to implement the methods and content in your own school, this part-time continuing education programme is structured according to what is known as the ‘pedagogical double-decker’ format.

  • The focus of this programme is on ‘Workplace Learning’ and therefore on working on your own projects. You will, however, meet regularly with other participants in WOL circles.

  • Halfway through the programme, you will begin conducting a continuing education project involving the teaching staff at your own school.

  • Presentations, tutorials, literature study, reflection, participation in the O365 Learning Lab and eCollaboration are other methods that feature in this programme.

To earn this CAS qualification, you must attend contact hours on a regular basis, participate actively in the WOL circle and pass the competency assessment. The assessment is based on your ePortfolio, documenting the development steps and reflecting on your own learning process.
